THREADS OF HONOR After many months of rejection and perseverance, Boy Scout Troop 514 of Monument, Colorado, convinced NASA to carry their American flag as part of a space shuttle mission-the Challenger mission. Eight months later during the recovery of the wreckage from the ocean floor, the flag was found in the compartment where it was stored with several silver medallions. The heat of the explosion had melted the medallions into a lump of metal. But the flag inexplicably remained unscathed and intact. Threads of Honor, by Gordon Ryan, is based on true accounts and tells the story of Troop 514 as seen through the eyes of their scoutmaster, Air Force Major William Tolbert. Soul-stirring and inspiring, Threads of Honor is a story of courage, sacrifice, and perseverance, of the American space program, and the spirit of an American flag that wouldn't die. |
